Markeita Pruitt, Proprietor
“If I had to choose between doing hair for free or working in another field for money,
I’d do this for free”.
Over the course of 5 years, Markeita branded Touch of Heaven Salon in such a way that it has connected her with some amazing people and presented unfathomable opportunities. In 2015, she began yearning for the personal one-on-one atmosphere that she had grown to love in the early part of her career. With that came the difficult decision to close her salon and return to a mini suite salon concept. This decision, though hard, afforded the opportunity for Markeita to focus more on providing her clients with the special attention they deserved, as well as work freely, expressing herself through artistic hair design, without the distractions and stress of salon ownership. As she continues to gain momentum, she desires to show many just how good God is, and how important it is to walk in your destiny.
Seeing hair as a form of expressive art, Markeita uses each client as a canvas to create unique hairstyles, personalized for each individual. She believes the passion she has for hair is her driving force to continue working as industriously as she does. Mrs. Pruitt has a heart to serve, and to see others excel. For this reason, she finds herself mentoring others in the field of cosmetology, as well as ministering to others in times of hardship and spiritual dispair.
In 2017, Markeita launched her second salon, Studio 29:11 Salon Gallery, a tribute to her favorite scripture Jeremiah 29:11. The salon has grown successfully, and experienced a rebranding in the latter part of 2019, now affectionately known as The Suite Life Salons. Operating a salon park has brought so much joy to Markeita and all the clients who are now able to enjoy their personal haircare experience. It is Markeita's goal to deliver an oasis, an escape, if only for a few hours; her atmosphere being raved about by many.
The future looks bright, as Markeita works towards her Baccaulearate degree in Disciplinary Studies from Houston Baptist University, she works diligently to continue growing her businesses. She aims to go on and receive her Masters in Psychology with a focus on Christian Counseling in order to launch a black-owned counseling firm. With God leading her, granting patience, strength and endurance, she has no doubt that all will come to fruition.
Markeita Pruitt, proprietor of Touch of Heaven Salon, was born with a passion for hair. Growing up, as a kid, she played “Beauty Shop” with all her friends. Beginning in middle school, she was the “local stylist” for friends and neighbors. All through high school, she’d style for events such as homecomings, proms, and other ceremonies, as well as built skills by practicing new ideas on all who would allow her. After entering adulthood, she enrolled in college, with a major in Psychology, and a minor in business. Unfulfilled, with one semester left to graduate, she dropped out, got married, and enrolled in college to receive her Cosmetology license. In 2006, she completed the courses, and obtained her license. She worked in the industry for 3.5 years before opening her own shop, accomplishing her dream that she'd held since childhood.
Mrs. Pruitt has always said that, “if I had to choose between doing hair for free or working in another field for money, I’d do this for free”. She's found that there is nothing more rewarding and fulfilling than serving others who are truly grateful. She works to pour that same amount of passion into her artistry and is thankful that it is so easily identified by others. Licensed for 14 years, with over 20 years of experience, Markeita is amazed to have achieved all that she has, and can only look to the future with expectancy.
